10/26/2014 Manchester Orchestra's Andy Hull Lists His Top 10 Horror Movies

The lucky bastards over at Bloody-Disgusting.com got a chance to interview Manchester Orchestra lead singer Andy Hull about what horror movies he considers worthy of his top ten. Manchester Orchestra is personally one of the best bands out there. From creating the fast-paced, passionate music on the album "Cope" only to turn right around and release a slower, more orchestral album "Hope" (which consists of covers of each song from "Cope,") these guys are constantly expanding their musical style and rhythm while keeping the epic tone of their songs that they've had since I heard them on "I'm Like a Virgin Losing a Child." Needless to say, I'm a huge admirer of Andy and the rest of the band, so when I heard someone got a chance to interview him about his favorite horror movies, I read endearingly to see how his list compared with that of my own. Alas, we don't share a single movie from our respective lists, but I was honestly surprised that he had even heard of some of them, let alone seen them. After all, a couple of these are on quite a bit of "Most Disturbing Movies" lists. I've posted a video of Manchester Orchestra's music from "Hope" so you may listen to it while reading through the list.

All right, let's see what Andy has to say about his list...

#10 - Let the Right One In (2008)

"A wonderful take on vampires. Terrifying. Slow burn with a wonderful finish."

#9 - Dawn of the Dead (2004)

"I feel like this one gets overlooked. It’s the most fun I have had watching a zombie movie and THEY SHOOT A BABY ZOMBIE IN THE FACE. This is Zack Synder’s (300, Watchmen, Man Of Steel) first movie and you can tell he is something special from the first frame."

#8 - 28 Days Later (2002)

"Gritty and gruesome. The complete opposite of dawn of the dead. This is what it might actually look like if there was a zombie apocalypse. It’s overall wonderful."

#7 - Antichrist (2009)

"A terrifying tale of a woman possessed and going insane. The opening scene involves a baby jumping out of a window while the parents have sex and the mom willfully allows her to jump. The final scene involves… well… let’s just say it is burned into my brain forever."

#6 - Drag Me to Hell (2009)

"It’s always nice to have a little humor involved with your horror. It’s what makes the world go round. This movie is hilarious and horrible all at the same time. A girl who gets cursed and then eventually taken to hell…how about that?"

#5 - The Descent (2005)

"I saw this in the theaters with my little sister and made a promise to never ever go cave diving. It’s about weird mutant cave people and I think they eat their own. The movie has a wonderful alternate ending where the main character shoots herself and the credits roll."

#4 - Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (2010)

"A great story about two kindhearted rednecks who keep seeing a ton of teenagers kill themselves. It’s great."

#3 - Psycho (1960)

"My first scary movie! I think I also held a girls hand for the first time during this movie. Shower curtains have never looked the same."

#2 - The Conjuring (2013)

"The most recent but a wonderful movie to add to the list. This movie made me jump out of my skin. Totally insane."

#1 - The Exorcist (1973)

"You know why."
