How Will a Young "Leatherface" Be Depicted?

According to TheWrap, there is another Texas Chainsaw coming around the bend. This time, we follow a young Leatherface in a sort of coming-of-age story as he progresses into the 6'5" chainsaw-carrying, brutish killer we all know and love. The film will be simply titled "Leatherface."

Not many details have been released about the film, but we have been informed that Carl Mazzocone (Texas Chainsaw 3D, The Tortured, Dumb & Dumberer) is producing with Seth M. Sherwood being brought on as writer. The film will take place in the 1970's, reportedly before the events we see during the opening scene of "Texas Chainsaw 3D", which coincidentally depicts the final scene of the first Texas Chainsaw film, "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" from 1974.

Personally, I don't think we really need a prequel to this franchise. I mean, Leatherface is a pretty impressive presence on screen due to his massive size, loud chainsaw, and brazen manner in which he chases and kills his victims. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I am picturing a young Leatherface walking around, being silent, probably being abused and bullied to the point of eventually snapping and killing people. I just don't see that as a particularly commanding visual in comparison to the Leatherface we're all used to seeing. On the other hand, should this film only take place around a few years prior to the original, then I believe the filmmakers will have something substantial with which to work. A late-teen/twenty-something, more agile Leatherface in his prime could bring a brand new sense of terror to the big screen.

Only time will tell.
